The variety is a fern with thin, wiry black petioles and multi-pinnate fronds that create a delicate appearance. A characteristic feature is the peculiar "petticoats" at the leaf tips.
The plant is used as an indoor crop. For successful cultivation, high air humidity, protection from direct sunlight and drafts, and maintenance of a temperature no lower than 15–18°C are required.
