The plant forms dense sods. Compared to standard wheatgrass, it possesses thinner stems, soft drooping leaves, narrow spikes, and awnless glumes. In terms of seed germination energy and seedling development speed, it is inferior to more modern varieties.
The variety is adapted to light sandy, well-drained soils and regions with annual precipitation from 200 mm. It possesses high drought tolerance. It is considered a high-quality forage for cattle, sheep, and horses.
Used for establishing pastures and hayfields, land reclamation, and erosion prevention. Frequently used as part of grass mixtures for arid conditions.
