Agrostemma githago is an annual herbaceous plant, the height of which usually varies from 50 to 100 cm. The plant contains saponins and is poisonous.

In modern conditions, this species is used for landscaping flower beds, wildflower meadows, and areas in a natural style. Historically, the plant was considered a weed of grain crops; therefore, its cultivation for agricultural purposes is limited today.
