Variety description

The plant is a biennial with a straight, unbranched stem reaching a height of 200–250 cm. The leaves are palmate, 5–7-lobed with a crenate margin, and covered with coarse pubescence. Flowering occurs from July to September.
A key feature of the variety is its deep dark purple flowers. The plant prefers sunny areas with fertile, drained soil. Due to the height of the flower stalks, support may be required to protect against lodging, and in high humidity conditions, susceptibility to rust is possible.
The variety possesses medicinal properties: the flowers are used in infusions for inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract. A high content of anthocyanins allows the raw material to be used as a natural dye.
