This plant is native to South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. In cultivation, it reaches a height of 30–60 cm and forms dense cylindrical inflorescences of orange-red or yellow color on long flower stalks reaching up to 1.25 m.
The plant is used as a potted crop or an ornamental species for gardens in a suitable climate. It is drought-tolerant, prefers good lighting and the presence of drained soil.
