The variety Jizerka is a biennial monocarpic plant that develops a leaf rosette in the first year of life and a flowering stem in the second. The plant height during the flowering period is about 150 cm. The stem is hollow, furrowed, with a characteristic purple tint. The leaves are large, pinnate. The root system is developed, fleshy, and releases aromatic milky sap when damaged.
The plant is frost-hardy and capable of growing in mountainous conditions. It is not prone to specific diseases, however, it can be affected by aphids, spider mites, and field bugs. The main medicinal raw material is the roots, which are harvested in the autumn of the second year or in the spring of the third year of vegetation. The use of leaves and fruits is permitted.
