The NC-7 variety belongs to the Virginia peanut type and requires a long warm period of 120 to 150 days to mature. Plants of this type are characterized by the formation of large seeds. Traditionally, the variety's production is used for the manufacture of roasted snacks and peanut butter.
In scientific literature, the variety often acts as a control sample when studying diseases such as sclerotinia and leaf spot due to its low resistance to pathogens. Its genetic material is frequently used in breeding programs to create new varieties through backcrossing.
During sensory evaluations, the variety demonstrates protein and oil content typical for the species, while the flavor profile is characterized by median roasted peanut flavor scores with low sweetness and pronounced bitterness.
