The variety was bred as a result of selection from wild populations found in the Teruel and Sierra Nevada regions, with the goal of obtaining plants with minimal content of toxic terpenes. The selected population from Teruel showed the best adaptation to rainfed farming conditions at altitudes of 300–500 meters and stability of chemical composition under cultivation.
The chemical profile of the variety's essential oil includes cis-epoxy-ocimene, chrysanhtenol, chrysanhtenyl acetate, trans-caryophyllene, and linalool. Due to the absence of thujones, the raw material is used in the industrial production of hydrolats, dry extracts, and essential oils that possess pronounced activity against phytopathogenic fungi and parasitic nematodes.
