The Algerian "S" (susceptible) line, together with the Algerian "R" (resistant) line, is used in phytopathological research to study defense mechanisms against powdery mildew Blumeria graminis. The difference between them lies in the state of the Ml-a locus, where Algerian "S" carries a recessive allele that makes the plant susceptible to the pathogen.

These lines are highly specialized scientific material and are not intended for mass agricultural cultivation. Information on economic characteristics, such as yield or morphological features, is absent as the object is a model for molecular genetic experiments.
