The Matilda variety of Swedish breeding is characterized by an increased oil content in the grain, which is approximately 10%. Lipid accumulation in the grains of this variety occurs predominantly in the endosperm.

In scientific literature, the variety often serves as an object for genetic research, the study of androgenesis, and the construction of linkage maps.
