The Tomba variety is an oat with white grain. According to the results of biochemical studies, it stands out among other oat samples for its increased beta-glucan content in the grain composition.

For a long time, the Tomba variety was used as a comparative standard in distinctness, uniformity, and stability testing. In later plant variety reference materials from Germany, the variety was included in registries, however, detailed agronomic indicators, such as resistance to lodging or diseases, were not provided in later editions.
