'Elfe' belongs to the Begonia × hiemalis hybrid group. It was obtained as a mutant form from the begonia variety 'Nixe'.

This variety is intended for commercial use as a pot plant. In scientific literature, it is mentioned in experimental protocols for the study of begonia bacterial leaf spot caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. begoniae, for the analysis of the latent period of infection.
