The variety belongs to the Begonia × hiemalis hybrid group and in a number of publications is identified as a separate group under the name Nixe group. The plant is propagated vegetatively, predominantly by leaf cuttings, and was intended for commercial pot cultivation.

In scientific research, the variety was applied for the study of sensitivity mechanisms to ozone, where it was classified as a plant with intermediate resistance. Also, Nixe was used as a model organism in the study of bacterial leaf spot of begonia, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. begoniae.
