The variety has a vertical growth habit, which makes it suitable for use as an avenue tree or a specimen plant. Young shoots are distinguished by a brownish-pink hue, and the main trunk acquires a white-pink color with age. The foliage is dark green, typical for the species.
The plant belongs to the Chocolate series and is known under the trade name Ruby Chocolate. In botanical publications, there are discrepancies regarding the taxonomy of the variety: it is classified either as Betula albosinensis or as Betula utilis subsp. albosinensis.
