The variety "Smeraldo" is registered in international registers as a variety of swede. Despite the fact that rapeseed and swede belong to the same botanical species Brassica napus L., they have fundamentally different agricultural purposes: swede is used as a forage or vegetable crop.
In agronomic sources, the variety "Smeraldo" is often confused with the popular winter rapeseed hybrid "Smaragd". The latter is an independent breeding product intended for oilseed production and has no relation to the variety "Smeraldo".
