The Amalie variety is a traditional open-pollinated winter rapeseed. Its key biological feature is the presence of genetic resistance to the Turnip yellows virus (TuYV), which is transmitted by aphids.
At the time of its market introduction, the variety had a lower yield compared to modern non-resistant varieties available at that time. In agronomic literature, the variety is considered a historical predecessor to subsequent generations of high-yielding hybrids with similar resistance.
