Blackvelvet is a winter oilseed rape of the "00" type. This seed type is the standard for industrial oil production due to its erucic acid-free composition and low glucosinolate content.
Detailed morphological characteristics and productivity indicators for the variety are absent in open publications. The variety should not be confused with the Ukrainian variety Чёрный Велетень, which is an independent breeding unit.
