The variety is classified as susceptible to downy mildew (Peronospora parasitica). In scientific literature, it is used as a model object for studying the correlation between glucosinolate content in plant tissues and the level of its resistance to this disease.

In official European catalogs, the variety is identified as cauliflower. In a number of reference materials, the name Jakavan is also found in lists of ornamental or kale varieties (Brassica oleracea convar. acephala).
