The plant reaches a height of 1.2–1.5 m. The leaves are large, lanceolate, colored in a combination of burgundy, red, orange, green, and bronze with contrasting stripes that change shade during the growing season. Tangerine-colored flowers are gathered in open inflorescences at the tops of the stems.
The variety is thermophilic (USDA zone 7–10) and requires digging up the rhizomes for the winter in cold climates. The flowering period lasts from early summer until the first frosts. The plant may be susceptible to leaf spot, rust, bacterial wilt, and aster yellows, and in strong winds, the stems require support.
The variety originated as a spontaneous mutation of the Canna Wyoming variety. Phasion is the official name, while Tropicanna is the trademark used for sales.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
