The plant's leaves are about 2.5 cm wide and have a bamboo-like appearance characteristic of the species. In spring, the foliage is lemon-colored, which changes to light green or a chartreuse shade by summer. The flowers are small, brownish-green, gathered in spike-like inflorescences on triangular stems, and appear in late spring or early summer.
The plant forms dense, arching clumps and is a summer-green perennial whose foliage dies back in winter. The variety is resistant to Verticillium wilt and does not suffer from serious diseases or pests. It prefers shade or partial shade and consistently moist soils; it tolerates drying out of the soil poorly.
Used as a groundcover plant in shady areas, a border and container culture, or an accent plant for small gardens.
