The Rivera variety, also known by the code designation SC1202, belongs to the Castanea x coudercii hybrids. The plant was obtained through controlled crossing within a breeding program aimed at adapting planting material to modern climatic conditions.
The main characteristic of the variety is its resistance to chestnut ink disease, caused by the pathogen Phytophthora cinnamomi. The variety is propagated by micropropagation, which ensures the possibility of its mass production for the establishment of new plantations.
