The variety is a shrub or small tree reaching 2–2.5 m in height five years after planting. Distinguishing features are heart-shaped blue-gray leaves that persist throughout the season, and dark red young shoots.

Flowering occurs in spring before leaf emergence, when the branches are covered with pink flowers. The plant belongs to hardiness zone 7a, tolerates heat and drought well, and prefers sunny sites with moderately moist, well-drained soils. Pruning is permitted to maintain the shape of the crown.
