Rugoso della Maremma is a historically established local form of chickpea from the Tuscany region in Italy. The variety is characterized by a small seed size, yellow in color with yellowish veins; black specimens are also encountered. The specific wrinkled appearance of the seed coat is due to the characteristics of soils poor in calcium carbonate.

Plants are sown in the autumn, and harvesting takes place in July. The variety demonstrates good yield performance, comparable to or exceeding commercial analogs, and possesses a favorable ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids. The grain is traditionally used for preparing flour, soups, purées, and chickpea flatbreads.
