The variety is classified as having a broad-elliptic fruit shape in longitudinal section. It is used in international testing protocols for the differentiation and morphological description of other watermelon varieties.

In a number of agricultural catalogs, the name Zorba is erroneously attributed to sunflower hybrids, which is confirmed by disease resistance and seed oil content data uncharacteristic for watermelon. Such information does not pertain to the Zorba watermelon variety.
