The plant is a hybrid resulting from the natural crossing of mandarin and citron, native to Northeastern India. The tree is characterized by high growth vigor, has a spreading crown, and branches with small thorns. The light green leaves are medium to small in size, and flowers with a purple hue appear throughout the year with peaks in spring and late summer.
The fruits have a variable shape, often with a pronounced "nipple" at the apex and an uneven "collar" at the base. The peel is thick and bumpy, bright yellow or brownish-orange in color. Inside is pale yellow or pale orange pulp with an acidic taste and many small seeds. The main harvest is collected in the winter period.
The plant is valued for its high adaptability to soils, drought tolerance, and resistance to Citrus tristeza virus. It is considered one of the most cold-hardy species in the group, comparable in this indicator to true lemons.
