Typical yuzu is distinguished by strong growth and the presence of long, sharp apical thorns, which complicate tree maintenance and can damage fruit during high winds. The fruits ripen in October–November, have characteristic bumpy skin rich in essential oils, and are noted for the high acidity of their juice.
The frost resistance of this plant type corresponds to the species characteristics of Citrus junos and is approximately -15°C...-18°C. In cultivation, this type is used as a universal citrus for culinary purposes and also serves as a benchmark for comparison with breeding clones.
