The variety is one of the oldest traditional types of bergamot, intended primarily for the production of essential oil from the peel, used in the perfumery and food industries. The plant is vigorous and energetic, with a compact crown and long, sometimes drooping branches.
The fruits have an average size from 90 to 150 grams, making them the largest in the bergamot group. They are round or flattened in shape, often with a characteristic pointed tip and a bright yellow textured peel. The flesh is tender, juicy, with acidity and hints of bitterness.
The variety is prone to alternate bearing, in which high-yielding and lower-yielding years alternate. Yield is estimated as moderate. The plant is well adapted to the conditions of Southern Italy and is often used as an ornamental crop when grown indoors.
