The Galia type was created in the 1970s by crossing cantaloupe and netted melons. Plants have vigorous vines and are suitable for cultivation in open field and protected cultivation. The growing period, depending on conditions, ranges from 55 to 95 days.
Fruits have a round or oval-round shape weighing from 1 to 2.5 kg. Characteristic features include a yellow or orange-yellow rind with a pronounced netting and flesh ranging from whitish to greenish-golden in hue. Fruit sugar content varies within 13–18%.
Hybrids of this type are distinguished by good keeping quality of up to 2–3 weeks and high transportability. Selected breeding varieties have intermediate resistance to Fusarium wilt. The fruits are intended primarily for fresh consumption.
