The variety Mziraa is a local landrace originating from Algeria and is presented in official catalogs as a hybrid. It is widely cultivated in the Biskra region, where it is one of the most common melons grown under irrigation.
Studies show that this variety has high sensitivity to broomrape and drought. It is used in agronomic experiments to study the influence of growing conditions and pests, in particular thrips, in greenhouse conditions. Detailed morphological descriptions of the fruits are absent in open publications.
