The variety belongs to the gherkin group. In a professional setting, it is used as a model object for studying plant physiology, including nitrogen uptake issues, as well as in research on resistance to fungal diseases, such as grey mold and root rots.

In official variety testing guidelines, Hyclos is used as a reference sample when characterizing morphological traits, in particular, the density of pubescence. The variety is specialized material for the professional sector and is not intended for mass amateur cultivation.
