The Tornado hybrid bred by Nickerson-Zwaan is mid-season. The plant is medium or vigorous. The fruits are of the gherkin type, intended for canning, have a very smooth surface, and contain no bitterness. The length-to-thickness ratio of the fruit is 3.2:1. It possesses resistance to powdery mildew.

An alternative description found on the market characterizes "Tornado F1" as a mid-season parthenocarpic hybrid with a maturation period of 38–42 days. The fruits have a length of 12–14 cm and a weight of 120–150 g. This type of hybrid is characterized by high resistance to Cladosporium cucumerinum, powdery mildew, cucumber mosaic virus, root rots, and downy mildew.
