The plant is of the bush or semi-vining type, reaching a height of 50–100 cm. The fruits have serrated edges and, upon ripening, are colored pure white, sometimes with a greenish tint. The flesh is characterized by a tender consistency and possesses a light nutty or aniseed flavor.

Young fruits with a diameter of 8–12 cm are considered optimal for consumption; they can be fried, stewed, stuffed, or added to salads. When overripe, the fruit skin becomes coarse, which limits the use of such specimens for culinary purposes and makes them suitable primarily for decorative arrangements.
