The variety is a product of folk selection, cultivated in Tuscany for many decades. Its origin is presumably linked to the Zucchino Scuro Genovese variety.

The fruits of the variety are characterized by their small size. An important feature is the high resistance of the flower to wilting, which allows the commercial appearance of the fruit to be preserved along with it. Due to its firm flesh, which holds its shape well during cooking, the variety is suitable for soups and other dishes.

The variety is distinguished by a relatively low yield. In modern conditions, it is traditionally used for local consumption and family needs, as the small size of the fruits makes it less competitive in the commercial market compared to hybrids.
