The plant is a rhizomatous perennial that blooms during the summer period. The primary ornamental feature of the variety is its white bracts. Typical plant height is 50–70 cm.

The variety is used exclusively as an ornamental pot crop and for landscaping; the species is not used for food purposes. The name Lanna White refers to the species Curcuma alismatifolia, while other market names for white forms of turmeric may not be identical to this variety.
