The variety name translates as "beacon" or "signal fire" and in the first half of the 20th century served as a commercial designation for cyclamens with a characteristic dark purple-red flower shade. The variety belongs exclusively to the species Cyclamen persicum and is not related to ivy-leaved cyclamens.

In scientific studies dedicated to plant pathology, the variety is noted as being extremely vulnerable to the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cyclaminis. Detailed data on plant height or maturity periods are absent in the sources.
