Growth type is sympodial, the plant forms pseudobulbs from 5 to 30 cm long, thickened at the base and tapering towards the apex. At the top of each pseudobulb there are usually 3 to 6 leaves.
The inflorescence is a raceme 7–15 cm long, bearing from 2 to 15 flowers. The flower color varies from white to a dark purple shade, with pink being the most common.
The plant is intended for ornamental indoor floriculture. Flowering usually occurs in late winter or spring, the inflorescences are fragrant.
