Dianthus barbatus of the QIS Zanzibar series is a professional biennial crop 90 cm tall with intense orange flowers and dark green foliage. Also found in literature is a description of a Dianthus variety with large orange-light orange or red-pink flowers 8–8.5 cm in diameter.
Carthamus tinctorius variety Zanzibar is characterized by large buds on sturdy stems that are resistant to transport and have a long vase life. It is a mid-early variety used for both fresh and dried floral arrangements.
