The Red Empire variety is an ornamental herbaceous perennial from the Asparagaceae family. The plant forms corms and a tall leafless flower stalk. One umbel-shaped inflorescence contains from 6 to 20 tubular flowers.
The color of the flowers is characterized as dark purple-red with contrasting light green tips. The plant requires well-drained soils and a sunny location, has moderate maintenance requirements, and is resistant to deer browsing.
