The variety Sylvia is officially registered and included in the list of Erica gracilis varieties. Breeding of the species traditionally involved the use of clones and mutants, as well as crossing with wild genotypes from South Africa.
The plant is used in ornamental gardening as a potted crop. Plants of other species may appear under the same commercial name, therefore the botanical name Erica gracilis is required for identification of the variety.
