The Algar variety is traditional for the Marina Baixa area in the province of Alicante and is included among the varieties protected by the Nísperos Callosa d'en Sarrià designation of origin. The fruits possess a bright yellow skin, orange or whitish firm flesh, and a sweet taste with a slight acidity.

The plant is intended for commercial production; the harvest period falls between April and June. Information about a variety named «Algar 12» is absent from registers; this designation is likely an internal technical notation.
