The variety belongs to the day-neutral type, which ensures the ability for continuous fruiting under favorable conditions. The fruits have stable quality characteristics: in high-altitude conditions, the berry diameter was approximately 36 mm polar and 33 mm equatorial, soluble solids content was about 5.24°Brix, and pH was 4.65.
The variety is known for the presence of the dominant RCA2 locus, which provides resistance to certain strains of Colletotrichum acutatum anthracnose. Due to its properties, Capitola is frequently used in scientific research as a model object for strawberry genome mapping, studying fruit quality, and runner formation processes.
