The plant forms a compact basal rosette with broad, oval, glossy leaves. The leaf blade color varies from dark green to burgundy-black with bright pink stripes along the edges and along the central vein; the underside of the leaf has a purple hue. In indoor conditions, the height is 40–60 cm.

The variety possesses the property of nyctinasty, in which leaves change position during the day, rising upward in the evening. The plant prefers diffused light, requires high air humidity from 60 to 75 percent and temperatures in the range of 18–28 degrees Celsius.
