This population is known in world breeding of the 20th century as a short-statured and early-maturing sunflower form. It served as important material for the identification of the fertility restoration gene Rf1, which contributed to the development of commercial hybrid sunflower production.
At present, Cernianka is considered exclusively as historical genetic material, and not as a modern commercial variety for production cultivation. Information regarding its affiliation with the ISEA S.P.A. company product range is erroneous.
