The line was developed by selection from hybrid progeny derived from crossing the wild species Helianthus petiolaris and the line HA61. It is widely used for creating recombinant inbred line populations, in particular when crossed with the line RHA-266.
As a research object, the line is used for mapping quantitative traits, including resistance to downy mildew and Phoma, seedling development, response to drought, and somatic embryogenesis capacity. The line's response to gibberellin treatment in the context of male sterility research has also been studied.
