The PR-56/8 line was obtained as a result of crossing cultivated sunflower Helianthus annuus with the wild species Aster speciosa. This material is not a commercial variety or hybrid for mass production and is used exclusively in breeding programs.
The main purpose of the line is the development of new sunflower forms with high resistance to diseases, in particular to broomrape and downy mildew. Research shows 100% resistance of the line to the specified pathogens and an oil content in seeds at the level of 49.56%.
