The Rustiflor variety was introduced to the market in the 1980s and appeared in scientific reports of that period as an oil-type sunflower hybrid that participated in comparative yield trials.

Detailed agronomic characteristics of the plant are absent from open databases. In modern catalogs, the name Rustiflor is also found as a trade name for seed mixtures for biodiversity support, which are not a sunflower variety in the agronomic sense.
