The designation COSEH 1020 is assigned within the framework of the program for breeding new Helleborus niger varieties. These codes are used by the nursery for internal record-keeping and labeling of plants undergoing trials or at the selection stage before being assigned a commercial name.

Plants of this breeding group are characterized by an upright habit, large flowers directed upwards or sideways, and leathery evergreen leaves. The breeding is aimed at obtaining hardy and profusely flowering forms suitable for cultivation in the garden, in containers, or for winter forcing.
