The plants of the variety are characterized by tall height and semi-erect growth habit. The flag leaf and spike are covered with a strong waxy bloom. The spike is long and loose in shape.
The grain has an intense black coloration of the husks and aleurone layer. The variety contains an increased amount of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, β-carotene, lutein, and phytomelanin.
The variety belongs to the hooded barley group. It is used as a raw material for craft brewing and in the production of functional food products.
