The Domen variety belongs to tall, two-row barleys. It possesses traits of resistance to Fusarium head blight, which makes it a valuable material for breeding varieties resistant to this disease and the accumulation of mycotoxins.
Compared to modern commercial malting varieties, Domen is characterized by a higher protein content in the grain. The variety is included in genetic resource collections, such as NordGen, and has been used repeatedly as a parental component for the development of new lines.
