The barley variety Florian is a facultative winter variety of the two-row type. The variety is classified as mid-late in terms of maturity.
In scientific literature, the variety is characterized as possessing effective resistance to powdery mildew Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei, due to which it is used in studies of pathotypes of this disease. Studies on the variety's resistance to leaf spot caused by Ramularia have also been conducted.
